    Inside the A&D Building.

  • The Fisher Paykel Experience Center is a retail showroom for the New Zealand-based appliance company, located in the A&D Building in New York City. Under the concept of “refined sophistication”, the design excercise was one of concealment and reduction. The primary design element is a ubiquitous acoustic ceiling grid, unifying various spaces. The acoustic felt cells absorb sound from events, while the open grid allows almost all operational components to live above the datum out of view, including sprinklers, ductwork & mechanical units, AV equipment, conduit, plumbing, and structure.

The scullery and catering kitchen are located at the core of the space, creating a central “box”. The box then divides the floor into four quadrants, which spatially defines the reception and each of the brand’s three distinct product line kitchens— each materially unique and independent.
