  • Callicoon, New York

  • Callicoon Hollow is a renovation of an 1860 bank barn in Callicoon, NY. To passively generate and retain heat, the roof is replaced by translucent polycarbonate panels β€” typically used in greenhouse structures. Essentially, the functional house floats inside this larger volume, creating sun-filled and lushly-planted interstitial space between the two.

The internal house volume is different from its enveloping historic structure in every way. It’s a form in torsion, cool to the touch, visually reflective, and tectonically independent.
