Callicoon, New York
-
Callicoon Hollow is a renovation of an 1860 bank barn in Callicoon, NY. To passively generate and retain heat, the roof is replaced by translucent polycarbonate panels β typically used in greenhouse structures. Essentially, the functional house floats inside this larger volume, creating sun-filled and lushly-planted interstitial space between the two.
The internal house volume is different from its enveloping historic structure in every way. Itβs a form in torsion, cool to the touch, visually reflective, and tectonically independent.
